TAO - New York
Trendy Asian Bistro by Cynthia Dunbar

Remember watching the movie "Hitch" and thinking that’s "Tao" as Eva Mendes sipped on her drink? The unique decor was memorable which is why I was able to identify the restaurant from a movie scene. Tao has 3 levels of asian inspired decor including a larger than life Buddha overlooking a virtual pool. The first time I stepped foot into Tao, I was surprised at how crowded this restaurant was on a Tuesday night. I did my due diligence and made a reservation, however, Tao is infamous for not adhering to reservation times. Typically you have to wait 20 minutes or more with a reservation. Once I was checked in, I was invited to wait by the bar which is located across from the hostess stand on the right hand side of the restaurant. Although the bar area was filled to capacity, I was able to observe the ambiance of the restaurant. In addition to a regular bar, the lounge area has comfortable leather seating and nice tables. As I was escorted to my table, I noticed that the seating was extremely tight. Once seated, the wait staff was extremely attentive even though the restaurant was busy. I was really impressed with our waiter, as his menu suggestions were tasty, our water and drinks were always full and he was very personable. The food was scrumptious, well seasoned and decent portion sized. I suggest that if you have room after dinner, order from the dessert menu, I’ve tried several desserts and have never been disappointed. One last notable item, if you happen to be a wine connoisseur you need to request the wine list! My experience at Tao was one that I would repeat, although the wait time is below average and needs to be improved, the decor, food and service are above average. On a scale of 1 to 5, my rating is a 4 because it is worth the wait! Also worth mentioning is if you are in Las Vegas, you may want to check out Tao Las Vegas located at the Grand Canal Shoppes in the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. Based on several reviews the food and service at Tao Las Vegas is outstanding, one notable difference is Tao Las Vegas expanded on its restaurant which includes Tao Nightclub and Tao Beach, both frequented by celebrities.
