12 for ‘12
I’m sure most of you have resolutions already, and that’s fine! But while you’re sticking to your resolutions and resisting the urge to pick up a cigarette or trying your best to hold that curse word in even when your co-workers are pissing you off, I just figured that I’d put together a list of additional resolutions to serve as a backdrop to what you already have. Wasn’t that nice of me?
1- Stop Being Late- You'll be 70 years old, one day, wondering where all the time went, wishing you could have some of it back. Since this is true, it means that you DO value time... SO ACT LIKE IT. Respect your own time, other people's time and manage it accordingly. You'll be surprised how much things start to fall in place when you start showing up to things early, and managing time better, Trust Me.
2- Volunteer 24 Hours- After school program, Soup kitchen, Helping kids w/ homework, etc... Pick something and give just 2 hours of your time per each of the 12 months through out the whole year. If you'd like to do more, then do more and I don't think I need to say why, Do I?
3- Document Stuff- I visit my Grandparents and wish they had photo albums of themselves as kids. I wish I could see video footage of my pops playing ball overseas back in the day. But I can't. Create a Blog or a journal or at the very least, a Diary. That way you can write down what's going on with you. A Blog is best because it allows for video and photos of yourself and/or whatever you choose to post.
It doesn't have to be daily but at least in 2013 and 2014 and even 2078 you can look back at what "once was" and smile at how far you've come along, and maybe even do it with a Grandchild on your lap.
4- Be a Mom or Dad- Buy a new pet... Bury a seed and grow a plant... Adopt a baby tree... Buy a fish tank.. I don't know!! But take on the responsibility of a living thing. NO! You don't have to go and adopt a child or get with your mate and start creating rug rats but even if it's just a plant or even a hamster, take on the responsibility for a living thing (other than yourself). If you're doing it right, It'll add an appreciation for life that you didn't have in 2011.
5- Read More- Net Flix and Block Buster and Bootleg DVD's is a go! But let's read more. I say you should read at least 3 books this year and that's low... But it's a start. If you want to turn it up a notch, then read 5. If you really want to make improvements on your vocabulary, your knowledge and your overall brain capacity then do it big and read 10!! And please don't make em all Bump & Grind Zane style books either.
6- Workout- You're fat. Let's just be honest. You might like that the ladies call you Teddy Bear but it's going to take its toll on you in many ways. Your screenname is ThickNDelicious but you're far beyond thick, sweetie (I’ll get into the difference between “Thick” & “Fat” in a later post). Unless you have a medical condition, weight loss and keeping in shape through working out and eating right should be one of your goals this year. I say it because I love you. Now pass me that Cold Stone...
7- Eat less Sugar & Salt- This is connected to #6 But I want to stress this, DIABETES IS REAL. I work out but I can honestly admit that I need to watch my sugar and salt intake and I suggest you do too. You only get one body and Diabetes and dozens of her family members would love to show up on your health report.
8- Invest in Something "Non-Mainstream"- For every Broadway play, there are 5 plays at an inner city school auditorium. For every Gucci there are 30 designers sewing their own garments in a basement somewhere. For every Jay-Z, There are 1,235,236,275,753,347,466,356 Underground & Indie rappers. Get your Jay-Z & Gucci on but also support something that may not even have a website or a major machine behind it. You'll find that the talent between the Indie & the Mainstream might be just about the same. In some cases, the talent of the Non-Mainstream might be greater than that of the Mainstream. I'll leave that one alone.
9- Invest/Save- Do something as small as round up 2-3 friends and open a $100 savings account. Promise to invest $20 per person, per month and DON'T TOUCH IT! Do this consistently and before you know it, you'll have your hotel money for next year's Cancun trip. Or go more aggressive and you all start with $500 or $1,000 and invest $75 - $100 per person monthly. Put some of it in a savings account and use some of it to invest in penny stocks or even do some small time money-flips with party promoters or something. Just make sure you send a little over to the KS-Fund, LoL!!
10- Do check ups- Pick one person (or two if you really want to go Hard Body) and check up on them once a month. You can even program it in your smart phone that on the 11th of every month you’re going to send that person a text, or e-mail, or even have lunch with them. I’d suggest picking that person who had a rough 2011 or maybe the person who is going through some difficult times and really could use your moral, physical, and even financial support.
11- Talk to yourself- Fix your face, let me explain. Get in the mirror at least twice a week and look at yourself as if you’re not you. If you need to be yelled at, then yell at that person in the mirror. If you need a pep-talk, then encourage that person. If you deserve a pat on the butt for doing a good j… Well, hmmm… Let’s actually switch that to a pat on the back because some of you jokers can’t be left alone with our selves and I don’t want this to go into another type of post. This isn’t that type of website. *covers eyes
12- Do something you've never done- You don't have to go sky diving or anything like that but do something as simple as writing your mother a poem or taking your father to a jazz brunch. Doesn't have to be major but understand that people are who they are because of what they've been exposed to. You will only be what you will be because of what you've allowed yourself to be exposed to. Expose yourself to more in 2012... And you'll become more in 2012, and in 2013, and in 2030 and so on…
